I have just returned from watching a musical entitled Wicked and I was truly blown away! (See my hair from the picture there) I actually spent my pre-musical week listening to the Original Soundtrack on my iPod and attended the musical with an already rough idea of the story and yet the whole musical still left me mesmerized!
Since I first heard of the musical playing in Perth, I have heard comments from people of how good it was and I entered the musical fearing that it might not meet the lofty standards I had conceived in my mind, after all, how could a fairy tale that precedes Dorothy's encounter in the land of Oz captivate a "thinker" like me? Well, maybe the comedy would be funny I hoped...
The first act was basically the built-up and it was indeed a dream come true to see Elphaba soaring up in the air "defying gravity" with her hitting on insanely high notes! "...so if you care to find me, look to the western skies... as someone told me lately, everyone deserves a chance to fly...". Well, I thought that was it, at least the climax- the coolest part of the whole show, at least i thought...
The second act was where I was truly blown away, the story actually h.a.d. s.u.b.s.t.a.n.c.e. The author of this book had to be a genius to produce such a plot that narrates the story of such a painful reality of human nature cloaked within the veils of a dreamy musical that does justice to arts itself.
I won't spoil it for you because you would have a chance to watch it one day and also partly because I am at lost of words (vocabs) to describe the wonderful experience that I just shared together with my few "musical buddies" up in the photo. Definitely a musical worth watching!
