"I want to live free- free from the control of anything, be it religion, relationship, discipline or anything that will hinder me from happiness."
That is the code many people live and act by and although it may not seem directly apparent, we- oh yes, including me and my wretched life seem to speak it clearly through my thoughts, my actions and choices. And as we seek to fly out in the open, like an eagle, free and soaring, our minds tend to get trapped in the condition of unrealistic fantasy; even the eagle is bound by the design God has willed for it, it is bound by it's wings to fly, it can't get around by walking (oh yes it can but that would just defy the purpose God has for it); it is bound by it's eating habit, it cannot eat grass.
As I ponder about the similarities between me and the eagle, I also ponder upon the difference between men and beast - we are creatures with choices made in the image of God. I have to painfully admit that there is no way of achieving the "freedom" the phrase above carries- we have to be bound by something.
"You either serve God or the devil."
God, there is nothing in between serving you or satan, let me be bound by the code of Christ- the servant king, let me be bound by humility and selflessness and righteousness that stems from a desperate dependence on you. For my righteousness are like filthy rags, Lord. Let me be free to serve You.
